PRIOR TO APPOINTMENT

Dogs & Cats

Please remove all food or water at midnight the night before surgery. If animal does not fast, he or she may vomit during surgery which may serious complications such as aspiration pneumonia, infection, and death.

INTAKE

Dogs & Cats

• Please arrive at 8:00 AM sharp for intake.
• Upon arrival, stand masked in line, 6 feet apart until you reach the staff attendant.
• The attendant will greet you at the door with intake paperwork and an assigned number.
• You will then return to your vehicle to complete intake paperwork.
• Numbers will be placed inside the clinic window. When your number is posted, please bring the completed intake paperwork and your pet to the door.
• At that time, a veterinary technician will place a slip lead on your dog or take your kenneled cat to escort them to the back for their intake exam.
• Additionally, the attendant will confirm the services you have selected, answer any questions, and provide you with a discharge time.
• Once your pet has been processed, you are free to go.

• Should questions or concerns arise on our end, we will also contact you through the phone number and email provided on your intake paperwork.
• The process may take up to 45 minutes.
• All payments are to be paid by credit or debit cards at time services rendered.
• Additional services may not be added after the intake process is complete.

DURING APPOINTMENT

Dogs & Cats

DISCHARGE

Dogs

• All dogs are discharged at 1:45 pm.
• Upon arrival, stand masked in line, 6 feet apart until you reach the staff attendant.
• The attendant will greet you at the door, explain detailed discharge instructions while a veterinary technician escorts your pet to the front.
• Please bring a leash to walk your dog to the vehicle.
• All dogs will need to be lifted into your vehicle.
• Please ask your veterinary technician if you need assistance, we are happy to help.

Cats

• All cats are discharged at 2:45 pm.
• Upon arrival, stand masked in line, 6 feet apart until you reach the staff attendant.
• The attendant will greet you at the door, explain detailed discharge instructions while a veterinary technician escorts your pet to the front.

AFTER CARE

Dogs & Cats

• Restrict pet’s activity for the next two weeks to allow time to heal and avoid incision tearing or opening.
• No running, jumping, or playing!
• Cats should stay indoors. Dogs should be walked on a leash outside to urinate or defecate and then return inside to rest.
• Do not bathe, apply any moisture or ointment near or around the incision site for the next two weeks.
• Keep males away from intact females for 30 days. Females need to be kept away from intact males for at least two weeks.
• Give small amounts of food and water for the first 24 hours, as anesthesia could cause some nausea.
• Normal diet can be resumed after the 24-hour period.
• You pet will have a small green tattoo on the abdomen. This indicates your pet has been sterilized in case of ever being lost, stolen, or rehomed.
• E-Collars can be purchased to prevent any licking or chewing at the incision site, it is highly recommended if your pet is going to be without your supervision.
• Check your pet’s incision site daily for significant swelling, redness, or discharge.
• If there are any concerns you may email photos to us at clinic@snipidaho.org and we will determine if your pet needs to be rechecked.
